It is with deep sorrow that we share the obituary of Juan Angel “Juanito” Gasca, a devoted son, cherished brother, loving fiancé, and respected firefighter/paramedic from Genoa, Illinois, whose sudden passing on April 6, 2026 has touched hearts across Northern Illinois.
Born on November 12, 2000 in DeKalb, Illinois, Juan Gasca grew up with a profound sense of compassion and community. From a young age, Juan’s kindness, energy, and generosity stood out — traits that shaped his journey and defined how he approached both life and service. A graduate of Genoa‑Kingston High School, he participated in football and baseball, with baseball remaining a lifelong passion.
Juan’s calling toward public service led him to pursue emergency medical training, becoming an EMT and later a paramedic. He served with dedication across several local departments, including Kirkland, Malta, Huntley, and Genoa‑Kingston Fire Protection District. His courage and commitment eventually brought him to the DeKalb Fire Department, where he spent four impactful years earning the respect and friendship of his fellow firefighters.
Loved for his warm heart and magnetic personality, Juan was adored by his family: his parents, Jose and Maria Gasca; his sisters Paola, Jennifer, and Jocelin; and by his fiancé, Leyah Langley, whom he met in 2019 and proposed to in August 2025. Friends remember him as a loyal companion — always ready for a round of golf, a fishing trip, or an evening playing pool at Hill’s Tap. His talent with a smoker and gift for cooking brought joy and connection to many gatherings.
Beyond his professional achievements, Juan’s impact was felt in the community. He loved educating children on fire safety and served proudly with the AFFI Honor Guard. His presence brought smiles, reassurance, and unity — from community events to everyday moments shared with those he loved.
Juan’s unexpected passing has left his family, colleagues, and community in mourning. The City of DeKalb and the Associated Fire Fighters of Illinois released statements expressing gratitude for Juan’s service and urging respect for his family’s privacy as they grieve.
A funeral mass celebrating Juan’s life will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026 at 11:30 a.m. at St. Catherine of Genoa Church, located at 340 S. Stott Street, Genoa, IL, with burial to follow at St. Catherine Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of Butala Funeral Home & Crematory in Sycamore, Illinois.
Juan’s legacy is not measured solely by his years, but by the lives he touched — by his laughter, his unwavering dedication, and the compassion he brought into every room. Though taken far too soon, his spirit lives on in the memories of family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. As the community remembers Juan, his story remains a testament to courage, service, and love — a life well lived and dearly missed.
