With deep sorrow and heavy hearts, we announce the peaceful passing of Charlotte McCoy of Shippenville, Pennsylvania, on April 7, 2026. A devoted mother, grandmother, and treasured member of the community, Charlotte’s legacy of kindness, resilience, and love will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew her.
Charlotte McCoy was born on September 14, 1943, in Clarion County, PA, to the late Harold and Eleanor McAllister. From her earliest years, she exhibited a strong spirit, compassionate nature, and a love for service — qualities that would define her life and leave a lasting impact on her family, friends, and community.
After graduating from Keystone High School in 1961, Charlotte pursued a career in education, teaching elementary school for more than three decades. Her warm smile and patient guidance shaped countless young minds and inspired many to achieve their best. She was known not just as a teacher, but as a mentor who nurtured confidence and curiosity in every child she encountered.
Charlotte’s dedication extended beyond the classroom. She was actively involved in community organizations, including the Shippenville Women’s Civic Club and the local library board. Her generous spirit could be seen in every volunteer activity she embraced, always seeking ways to uplift others and improve her hometown.
In addition to her community work, Charlotte was an avid gardener, a passionate reader, and a devoted supporter of local arts. Her beautiful garden was a source of joy and pride, providing flowers that brightened homes across Shippenville and inspired neighbors to plant their own. She believed that small acts of beauty could make a big difference in the world.
Family was the center of Charlotte’s life. She was a loving wife to her late husband, James “Jim” Shippen, with whom she shared 45 years of marriage before his passing in 2010. Together, they raised three children: Laura (Steven) Bennett of Erie, PA, David (Christine) Shippen of Pittsburgh, PA, and Melissa Shippen of Cleveland, OH.
Charlotte’s greatest joy came from her grandchildren — Emily, Jacob, Olivia, and Samuel — who affectionately called her “Grammy.” She delighted in their laughter, cheered them on at school events, and treasured every moment spent together. Her family remembers her as a source of unwavering love, wisdom, and comfort.
Charlotte is also survived by her sister, Margaret Fields of Franklin, PA, and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will forever honor her memory. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert McAllister.
A celebration of Charlotte’s life will be held on Saturday, April 17, 2026, at Shippenville Community Church, beginning with a visitation at 10:00 AM, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 AM. Friends and family are invited to share memories and pay tribute to a remarkable woman whose life was defined by love, service, and unwavering strength.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Shippenville Public Library or the Clarion County Community Garden Initiative, reflecting Charlotte’s lifelong passions.
Charlotte McCoy’s legacy of compassion, dedication, and generous spirit will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. May her memory be a blessing and a source of comfort to her loved ones during this difficult time.
